Challenging the face of corruption in a dystopian setting, heavy melodic quartet DEAD KARMA deliver an aggressive, driving onslaught in the new single “Wolves”. The new release continues the band’s creative shift into heavier realms.
Lyrically, “Wolves” explores oppressors, presented as ‘wolves’, protest and revolution. The narrative, situated in a corrupt city, follows the frustration and anger of the people and their subsequent rebellion. DEAD KARMA explain further, “It’s a sort of protest ‘power fantasy’, but the song title hints at the reality of all too many protest/revolutionary movements in that they are all bark, no bite. In this case, they’re not ‘Wolves’, they are in fact ‘puppies’.”
In “Wolves”, the music focuses predominantly on rhythmic movement through power chords performed by guitars, with bass following the pattern. Pounding double bass kicks from the percussion establish the intensity that prevails throughout the track. Vocally, DEAD KARMA incorporate a mixture of distorted half-yelled/half-sung vocals enhancing the track’s aggression.
“Wolves” was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Rowan at Skaldic Studios. The cover artwork was designed and created by Andrew Cannell.
About DEAD KARMA:
Based out of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, DEAD KARMA formed in 2022 with Andrew Cannell (vocals/guitars), Raman Kambo (guitars/vocals), Sean Frankruyter (bass/vocals), and Jacob Jansen (drums). Kambo subsequently departed at the end of 2023, and 2024 brought the release of the band’s debut, four-track EP The Space Camaro.
The band draws musical inspiration from across post-hardcore, metal, prog rock and punk with primary influences taken from acts such as THRICE, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, TOOL, and MASTODON. Melodic leads are central to DEAD KARMA’s sound, with riffs predominantly crafted around memorable hooks.
2025 saw the recording of new material and DEAD KARMA welcomed Dylan Meiler (guitars/vocals) in fall of the same year. The band’s latest singles, “Settra” and “Wolves”, showcase a more aggressive, stylistic shift away from their first EP release.
