ANNIHILUS MUNDI, the innovative deathgaze project spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Daniel Saillant, has announced the release of a bold and emotionally charged cover of Dream Theater’s classic track, “Space-Dye Vest”. Originally featured on Dream Theater’s 1994 album Awake, this somber yet striking piece has been reimagined with Saillant’s unique blend of orchestral arrangements and heavy guitar-driven sound.
The new cover of “Space-Dye Vest” marks a significant moment for Saillant, who explains: “I chose to record a cover of this song as part of my first live set in Summer 2024, and am now releasing the cover as a studio track. The song was written by Kevin Moore amidst a depressive period that eventually led to him quitting the band. Space-Dye Vest is a song that has resonated with me since I first heard it as a teenager, and creating this cover has been a true joy.”
In Saillant’s rendition, the traditionally piano-led piece is reimagined with a stirring string section and dramatic guitar work, melding elements of death metal and shoegaze. His version amplifies the raw emotional core of the original while adding new textures that make it distinctively ANNIHILUS MUNDI.
