Through a diverse array of sonic thematic influences, LAMMOTH and GONEMAGE both push the boundaries of the black metal genre. Driven by an embracing of nostalgia, a love of Tolkien, and childhood memories of ’90s video games, the forthcoming split, Aetherfrost Caverns delivers a truly distinctive take on symphonic black metal. The split is set to arrive on October 17th, 2025, via Fiadh Productions.
LAMMOTH and GONEMAGE deliver an intriguing offering, from the intensity of “In the Black Winds the Stars Shall Die” that arrives with a breakbeat introduction before shifting sharply into icy and atmospheric black metal, to the more experimental and short-form approach taken with the electronic “Strange Relics”. Both projects take their own paths stylistically in how they navigate symphonic black metal. In Aetherfrost Caverns, both LAMMOTH and GONEMAGE come together to produce a dynamic sound with fantasy storytelling.
About LAMMOTH:
Inspired by Tolkien, LAMMOTH, the one-hobbit, North Carolina based project by Robert Sanford, unearths aspects of black metal that provide comfort while still producing an aggressive and heavy sound. Elements from genres beyond the realms of black metal, notably Drum n’ Bass, Breakbeats and N64/PSX Soundfonts, are infused to include an emphasis on nostalgia.
AboutGONEMAGE:
The Texas based project by Galimgim explores a sense of childhood nostalgia through Chiptune/8-bit/16-bit sounds blended with black metal. GONEMAGE initially started out as a ‘side quest’ to the album Phase Out by Galimgim’s former project CARA NEIR. GONEMAGE incorporates influences such as the likes of ARCTURUS, ULVER, SIGH, NOBUO UEMATSU, into the highly textural and immersive, video-game led sound.
