CHRONICLER OF ARDUL invites listeners into the flickering candlelight of a late night tavern with the release of the new single “Oh Me Oh My.” Built on raw rhythm and communal energy, the track is a raucous drinking song that celebrates hard work, hard earned coin, and the joy of finally setting responsibility aside, at least until the barkeep has had enough.
“What’s a tavern without a drinking song? A boring time what I say,” explains creator David Williams. “It’s even later in the night. The candles are low, and those who remain should have left an hour ago. But coin is coin.”
Driven by a simple drum and an inventive mix of claps, stomps, bottles, and layered vocals, “Oh Me Oh My” was written to be catchy and immediately singable. The repeated refrain gives everyone a phrase to latch onto, while the verses focus on familiar tavern themes. A hard day of work, responsibility finally behind you, and that hard earned coin at last being put to use. By the end of the song, the celebration collapses into last call as the barkeep throws everyone out.
Writing the song proved deceptively difficult. Its simplicity demanded a strong hook and a natural flow that felt effortless. Recording it, however, was pure fun. Williams tapped on bottles, clapped, stomped, patted his stomach, and stacked take after take of vocals. Slight imperfections and off lines were left intact, adding character and charm to the performance. A mental image of the Green Dragon tavern scene from The Fellowship of the Ring lingered throughout the process.
“Oh Me Oh My” arrives ahead of Sounds of Ardul, the third release from CHRONICLER OF ARDUL, scheduled for April 10, 2026. The album represents a new creative direction, leaving behind metal elements in favor of orchestral and fantasy focused compositions.
In wide brush strokes, Sounds of Ardul paints the emotional landscape of its world. From the dark beauty of the Woodlands, to the lurking depths of the Underground, to heroic calls to arms and uneasy encounters with figures whose true nature remains hidden. The album plays like a video game soundtrack set within a classic fantasy setting, built for immersion and storytelling.
And like many great adventures, it all begins in a tavern, with bards singing songs.
About CHRONICLER OF ARDUL:
CHRONICLER OF ARDUL was started as a passion project by David Williams when he wanted to combine his love of metal music and dark fantasy to tell a story that spanned over songs and albums. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, he puts his skills to the test to create the music for a story he had been working on for 9 years. The debut EP called Myrewood released late 2023, with its written short story partner, Myrewood Part 1, published in May 2024. The following EP, Sword Of Virné arrived in the summer of 2024. Musically, CHRONICLER OF ARDUL draws from the likes of SHADOW OF INTENT and MENTAL CRUELTY in the metal world, while also taking inspiration from Japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu.
