Drawing inspiration from the loss of a loved one, “Extinction Burst” is an emotive and musically dynamic offering from the Chicago-based solo project.
Emerging with a rhythmic onslaught, “Extinction Burst” unleashes a ferocious, heavy sound that continues across each of the track’s verses. The dominant force of the guitars reinforces the crushing weight of the seemingly unending dark, while the soaring melodies and poppy elements in the choruses reveal a lighter and more uplifting mood as the arrangement progresses.
The movement of “Extinction Burst” evolves as the track prevails; the primary rhythmic pattern returns throughout though it manifests in varied forms. The gloom of the opening section, and its harsh power, is gradually overcome as pentatonic runs across the guitars reinforce a more playful side in conjunction with a focus on the vocal melodies.
