Rising indie-experimental band BLUNTKNEES has just released their highly anticipated new single “Catch the Dark,” a raw and emotional reflection on anger, resistance, and personal growth. The release comes alongside a visually immersive music video, continuing the band’s tradition of cinematic storytelling and genre-blending innovation. Watch the music video HERE.

BLUNTKNEES, formed in 2022, has quickly gained traction with their dynamic sound, blending elements of indie rock, heavy metal, classical music, and shoegaze—all without the use of traditional guitars. Instead, the band’s signature guitar-like sound is achieved solely through Dani “Trip” Mailer’s unique approach to bass guitar. Combined with the haunting vocals and piano work of lead vocalist MoollonKyen, and the thunderous drumming of Philipp Koerver, BLUNTKNEES brings a fresh, layered energy to the alternative scene.

In their latest release, “Catch the Dark,” BLUNTKNEES offers a deeply personal and timely message. Reflecting on the significance of the song, MoollonKyen shared: “‘Catch the Dark’ is a powerful reflection on anger and resistance against violence and oppression. It’s a song that holds deep personal meaning for me, originally written back in 2010 with my former band in Korea. This new version represents a huge step forward, not just musically but emotionally. It combines the unique perspectives of each band member, creating something truly mature and raw. In the past, I was hesitant to speak up, to show my emotions and anger. But this re-imagined version fully captures that—every scream, every cry in the vocals pours out the emotions I’ve held back for so long.”

“Catch the Dark” is the latest release following the band’s debut EP Run Away, which dropped in January 2024 to critical acclaim. The band’s influences, ranging from RADIOHEAD and MUSE to NINE INCH NAILS and MY BLOODY VALENTINE, are evident in their complex soundscapes, which channel raw emotion through an innovative fusion of genres.
