Modern metal outfit URAGH have released their track “Capsize”. The song is taken from their upcoming album Maelstrom which is due for digital release on April 19th, 2024.
Singer Craig Murphy comments, “‘As soon as I listened to the demo of “Capsize”, I immediately got the feeling of “the calm before the storm” x3. Which is the structure of the song.
After this sense of feeling, I wanted to keep the title and write a song based on a fleet of ships being caught in a storm at sea. Helpless and at the mercy of the open ocean is something that very few of us would find comfortable.
In the first verse, “As the sky closes, with darkened clouds, A light exposes, the roaring sound”. This encapsulates the beginning of the storm and what’s to come.
In the chorus, “The panic sets in, beyond concern, terror claims, never returned”. I wanted to capture the mind-set of a sailor accepting his faith and being dragged down to the sea floor along with his ship and comrades.
After taking influence from the likes of listening to Mastodon’s “Leviathan” album, I couldn’t NOT mention what mythical creatures and beasts that may or may not lurk within the vast depths of the terrifying ocean. And you can hear these lyrics in the second verse.
I won’t go into much more detail about the song as I feel as if people really NEED to listen to it to get the sense of the feeling we tried to create, rather than just read what I’m writing about and try to capture the song’s overall eerie feeling.”

About URAGH:
Based in Dublin, Ireland, URAGHproduce music that incorporates a combination of progressive, alternative, and modern metal. Formed by Marcelo Varge (guitar), in 2022. Marcelo was quickly joined by Jason Hodgkins on drums and Sebastian Sparr on bass. After months of searching for a vocalist, Craig Murphy eventually joined and completed the line up of what is now known as URAGH. The band unveiled their first single “Decimate” in June of 2023, before heading into to the studio to work on their debut full-length. The initial taste of Maelstrom, “Monarch” landed in November of last year showcasing the harsher and more abrasive sound intended for the album, a slight shift from the melodic “Decimate”. “The Widening Gyre” and “Capsize” provides a further glimpse into the band’s musical direction embracing the proggier side of their sound, without neglecting the emotional outbursts that they have become known for during several cathartic moments in their gigs this year.
